Police veteran retires – Lakewood Police Sergeant Charles Terkelson retired this week after a 34-year career. Sgt. Terkelson started with the Lakewood Police Department on January 21, 1974. He was presented with the Police Service Award by Chief Kevin Paletta at a ceremony recognizing his contributions to the department, on Tuesday, February 26, at the Cultural Center. Sgt. Terkelson has had an impact on virtually every division and section of the department and will certainly be missed.
Lakewood Police capture suspects - Five juvenile males were arrested early Saturday morning after a caller reported seeing them in the area of W. Bayaud Ave. and S. Kendall St. where they were spray painting a house. After a brief foot chase, they were taken into custody and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Golden. Further investigation found eleven freshly "tagged" locations. The graffiti was on buildings, fences, houses and even the streets themselves. The five were booked on charges of felony criminal mischief.
Lakewood Police offer Citizen's Police Academy – Lakewood Police will offer a new Citizen’s Police Academy beginning April 1, 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. The class will meet weekly on Tuesday nights for nine weeks with graduation scheduled for June 3. The purpose of the class is to familiarize citizens with police operations. Attendees will be exposed to legal training, arrest control tactics, decisional shooting exercises, and even a mock crime scene & trial. Attendees have found the class to be both informative and interesting. The academy is open to city staff as well as council persons.
